THE SCHOOL FOR PEACE
Mahatma Gandhi was the greatest apostle of peace, centered on
nonviolence, individualism, soul force, and forgiveness. He was a man who
lived by his principles and led the nation by living as a real-life example. He
is a fine example of how to ‘practice what you preach’. Similarly, in
Vidyodaya, ‘we follow what we teach’ to the fullest. A good book and a
good teacher can impart the best education, but a good student picks up
the footsteps of his or her surroundings. In our school, we always ensure
the best atmosphere for the children.
Vidyodaya Girls’ Higher Secondary School has set a milestone in propagating
most of the Gandhian ideals in all of its undertakings for a century. With its
green campus and peaceful ambience, it acts as the perfect abode for peace
and serenity. Gandhi’s teachings form a huge part of our schooling
methods. We teach students not only to sharpen their practical skills but
also to inculcate in them the ethics and etiquette of a peaceful
mind.Throughout the year, students at our school pursue his principles in
academics, extracurriculars, and co-curricular activities.
Every day on campus, we begin with a prayer for world peace and
brotherhood. Teachers and students join together for a peaceful assembly,
nurturing their minds with motivational and inspiring stories for
constructing equity and harmony.
During class assemblies, students explore various life skills in an innovative
and practical way via plays, music, and choreography. The concepts of
teamwork and leadership are better taught this way.
Sarvodaya activities such as text recitation from the Quran, the Bible, and
the Bhagavad Gita make them explore the ideas of religion and God on a
common platform. It unites the ideals in the trinity of religious books. The
Sarvodaya songs strive to impart Gandhi’s notion of ‘Sarvamatha prarthana’
or ‘Sarvodaya singing’ to foster cultural oneness.’Spin the yarn’ is an initiative to nurture the spirit of patriotism in young
minds for many decades by teaching ‘Charkha’ on a regular basis. It calms
their anxious minds to spin the wheel with ease and peace. It binds them at
their inner level, ensuring peace and serenity. We believe in creativity by
exploring the past.
Students regularly take up the exams conducted by the Gandhi Study
Centre and indulge themselves in exploring his life history and morals,
thereby upholding them in their day-to-day lives.
On Martyrs’ Day, special bhajans are held to remember and pay tribute to
the great leader. One of the primary school houses is named after Gandhi to
mention his ideals in every possible way through its motto. In order to
promote the idea of community service and inclusive culture, the school
‘Alayas’ pay yearly visits to old age homes, hospitals, and orphanages. It
builds sportsmanship by working together to win.’Alaya Fete’ is conducted
to collect funds for these visits, fostering an attitude of sharing and caring
among fellow citizens.
Global peace initiatives may seem far-fetched, but we believe the values
instilled by the school are sure to contribute to everlasting peaceful
solutions to world issues.
