In memory of Freedom Fighter Gandhia Mamani Sri T.D. Tirumalai, we conducted a One-day Orientation for Teachers for 120 teachers on 10-08-2024 focussing on “Creating Peace Clubs in Schools” at ServaSev Vidhyalaya, Kunnavakkam, Uthiramerur Tk.
The program started with the prayer song “Agamurai Shakthiye.”
The welcome address was given by Mrs. R. Suganya, Principal ServaSev Vidhyalaya, Kunnavakkam.
A two-minute silence was observed in memory of Ms.C.Shenbagavalli Joint Secretary , GPF Madras.
Ms. Indhumathi gave a short note on the life of Gandhiya Mamani T.D. Tirumalai, Freedom fighter and former Secretary of GPF, Madras.
Mr.S.Muneeswaran, Project Director of ServaSev Schools, provided an introduction to the Gandhi Peace Foundation (GPF) and shared memories of his association with Mr.S.Kulandaisamy and Ms.C.Shenbagavalli. He also offered insights on how teachers can influence a peaceful environment in schools and society, emphasizing the role of teachers in promoting a culture of peace and creating peace clubs in schools.
Mr.S. Kulandaisamy gave a detailed explanation on how subject teachers can empower themselves as harbingers of peace. He also introduced the “150 Stories” tiny books and demonstrated how to tell each of these stories in the classrooms in three minutes.
During the coffee break, the book packs were distributed to all the teachers.
Storytelling sessions were conducted by Ms. Indhumathi, Ms. Sridevi, and some of the teachers, who had attended the August 1st, 2024 Teachers Orientation program at the Gandhi Peace Foundation, Chennai.
After the lunch break, 5 Peace songs taught by Mr.S.Kulandaisamy.
Mr. Aakash, son of Mr. S. Muneeswaran, Project Director of ServaSev Schools, shared his ideas about peace education and the importance of starting peace clubs in schools. He discussed the social impacts and the practical outcomes that students can achieve when they become adults in society.”
Mr.S.Kulandaisamy continued his discussions on creating peace clubs in schools, the methodology of conveying them in classrooms, and the present need for them. He explained how to use storytelling as a tool for peace education, providing practical examples and strategies.
Seven teachers individually presented their stories, ideas, and approaches to incorporating peace education in their classrooms.
There was a discussion on key takeaways from the day and the formulation of a plan for future actions.
The school authorities honoured the GPF team.
