Gandhi Peace Foundation, a pioneer organisation, was established in 1964 by eminent leaders of the National Movement like Dr.Rajendra Prasad, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr.S.Radhakrishnan, Dr.Zakir Hussain, Shri C.Rajagopalachari, Acharya J.B.Kriplani, Shrimati Sucheta Kriplani, Shri Morarji Desai and Shri Jayaprakash Narayan. Shri R.R.Diwakar was its first Chairman.
The Chennai based Gandhi Peace Foundation was, then a branch of the Delhi GPF, functioning from 1965 in V.Krishnaswamy Iyer Avenue, Luz, Mylapore, Chennai-4.
Sri.R.Venkataraman, then an M.P. and the Editor of Labour Law Journal, Dr. K.R. Srinivasa Iyengar, former Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University,
Veteran Gandhian Maharishi K.Arunachalam and Sri.N. Ramakrishna Iyer, a pioneer in Leprosy Rehabilitation Work, were the founder-trustees.
Mr.T.D.Tirumalai was the Secretary and Dr.S.Kulandaisamy was the Joint Secretary, since 1973. The office was shifted in 1986 to Takkar Bapa Vidyalaya, functioning there till the demise of Gandhia Mamani T.D.Tirumalai in 1993.
Then it started functioning with the support of Dr.Sarojini Varadappan, President of
WIA and Dr.Susheela Padmanabhan in Srinivasa Gandhi Nilayam, Alwarpet, Chennai-18.
By then Sri.R.Venkataraman, after his term as President of India was here in Chennai at Greenways Road, Chennai-28. Sri.R.Venkataraman and Bharat Ratna Sri.C.Subramaniam became the Patrons of this GPF and helped in all our activities.
